Did you know there are 50 pre-wedding parties before the D-day? Just kidding!!!

You are getting married soon, Congratulations! Even though the wedding is the biggest party, you still have some events leading up to the wedding party, these are called the pre-wedding parties. In order for you not to get stressed with all these activities this pre-wedding parties timeline will show you how to space the pre-wedding parties out in the months leading to the wedding.

It’s not a must to hold all pre-wedding parties, you can choose the pre-wedding parties that you would like to hold.

Here are the pre-wedding parties leading up to the wedding day and pre-wedding parties timeline.

1. Engagement Party

Yaay! the groom went down on one knee, slipped the ring on your finger and asked you to marry him. The engagement party is the perfect time to share the great news with your family and friends and also show off the new ring. The engagement party is also the time to talk about the upcoming wedding.

Although there are no set rules for the time to hold the engagement party, it’s best to hold the engagement party soon after the proposal so you can have ample time to plan the wedding and other pre-wedding parties.

The couple usually plan the engagement party.

2. Bridal Shower

The bridal shower is the event where the bride gets to spend time with her family, friends and loved ones while still single. The bridal shower usually happens 1 month to 3 months before the wedding. The bridal shower timeline depends on other pre-wedding parties. If you would be having other pre-wedding parties it’s better to hold the bridal shower between 2-3 months before the wedding.

The maid of honor usually plans the bridal shower. The maid of honor can be assisted by the bridesmaids in planning the shower. The bridal shower can also be planned by the bride’s sister.

3. Bachelorette Party/Bachelor Party

The bachelorette party and bachelor party is the celebration of bride/groom’s final moments as single people. The bachelorette party is always attended by the bride’s closest friends including the bridesmaids and bride’s sisters while the bachelor party is attended by the groom’s closest friends including the groomsmen and the groom’s brothers.

Ideally you should host the bachelorette party/bachelor party about a month to 2 weeks before the wedding. When the event involves travelling especially when it involves travelling you should host a month before the wedding. Make sure to confirm with guests for the best time to hold these parties.

The bachelorette party is hosted by the maid of honor and bridesmaids while the bachelor party is hosted by the best man and groomsmen.

4. Stag and Doe

Stag and doe also known as Jack and Jill, buck and doe, hen and stag or stag and drag is a fundraiser party for the couple. The money raised during this party goes towards the cost of the wedding. The stag and doe is usually held after the bridal shower (if you decide to have one), 4-6 weeks before the wedding.

The stag and doe is usually hosted by the bridesmaids, groomsmen and a few other close friends and/or family members.

5. Rehearsal Dinner

The rehearsal dinner is an opportunity for the families of the couple, the wedding party their spouses, the officiants and their partners to mingle before the wedding day. If you would like a more intimate affair, you can have just your immediate families and the wedding party at the rehearsal dinner. Traditionally the rehearsal dinner is usually organized by the groom’s family although in recent times both families or even the couple now hold the rehearsal dinner.

The rehearsal dinner is usually held the night before the wedding.

6. Welcome Party

A welcome party is one of the final pre-wedding events. Although it’s not compulsory to have one but you may consider having a wedding welcome party if you have a lot of out-of-town wedding guests or if you are having a destination wedding. The wedding welcome party helps get friends and family settled in before the big day. The welcome party is usually held the night before the wedding, after the rehearsal dinner.
